Ring of Honor has a good track recorded with using talent Japan. They have had some top guns in the industry to come out of Japan Pro wrestling Noah’s Kenta , Dragon Gate’s Cima, and even some legends in Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa, and the Great Muta. Japan is a big influence on the style that Ring of Honor wants to portray and it is a smart move because it is not a direction that WWE and TNA are going. In this weeks post I will be looking at some notable performers working in Japan right now and could be useful if ROH decided to bring in. Also one person that will not be on this list because he already does work for ROH but still deserves to be mentioned is Karl Anderson. He has made a big splash in New Japan Pro Wrestling this year and has become a top wrestler with his amazing arsenal and style. Anderson is a top contender in the current ROH title tournament and has shown that he is out to win. Anderson is defiantly a guy I want to see more of in Ring of Honor.
First on the list of people I want to see in ROH are Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith Jr. They are the current NWA tag team champions and a powerful tag team in New Japan Pro Wrestling right now. These to maybe better known for their time in the WWE as Vance Archer and David Hart Smith, The two did not have a great time in the WWE but after they decided to take there talents to Japan they showed people that the WWE made a huge mistake. Archer is a 6 ft 8in power house with a bad attitude and Smith is the son of a legend and is finally being built as on has defiantly showed that he is a star in the making. I can see the two being put up against any one on the roster a put on a compelling story. With their size and ability they can have great matches with anyone from the American Dragons to the Young Bucks all great matches to see. Smith in him self is a ridicules talent that I can see becoming a huge star some time soon and it would be smart for Ring of Honor to bring them in.
The next person I want to touch on is the guy with the most swag in New Japan Shinsuke Nakamura. Shinsuke is a 6’2” striking master with style like no other. He has held many championships most notably the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and currently he is the IWGP Intercontinental Champion. I think you could put him in the ring with any of ROH’s top talents and put on a show that would make the crowd go nuts. I could just see a match between him and Jay Lethal or Michael Elgin and it being spectacular.
The last person I want to talk about is the real rock n rolla Prince Devitt. Devitt with a change in gimmick this year that includes a major change in attitude has been on a run as of late. Devitt currently holds victories over Hiroshi Tanahashi and current Heavyweight champion Kazuchika Okada, he has not looked back ever since. Devitt is not unfamiliar with American talent as he took on Low Ki in a hard-hitting match at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia. I would love to see Devitt take on a rising star in ROH that being ACH. I think there styles would mesh together and give a great show for the people.
ROH has worked with companies in Japan before with great success but with the cost of travel and hotel and the amount a talent from Japan may cost makes it harder to set up bookings. It is a timing thing and at some point we could see some great talents out of Japan grace use with there presence in a Ring of Honor ring.
